TeaCon 2011, Some Good, but Some Scandal

teacon

Warner Todd Huston reports live from TeaCon 2011 and there's a scandal a'brewing.

I’ll be here all day at TeaCon 2011 sponsored by Chicago’s WIND radio, ChampionNews.net, and the Chicago Tea Party. Friday’s opening ceremonies were enjoyable, of course. WIND’s Big John Howell and Amy Jacobson emceed the evening entertainment. We were regaled by the comedy stylings of Steven Crowder and all were wound up by the straight talk and stream of conscientiousness of Andrew Breitbart. We heard some wonderful, patriotic music and all shared a beer or cocktail.

But there were hushed whispers during the night about Chicago Tea Party chief Steve Stevlic. It seems that gawker.com was tipped by Chicago-area rivals of Mr. Stevlic that back in June of 2010, Stevlic was detained by Chicago police for soliciting a prostitute.

Gawker also notes that months afterward on his Twitter account, Stevlic was pleased to attack Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. when it was revealed that he was whoring around on his wife.

The sex issue isn’t the bad part for Tea Party supporters, though. The sad thing is that Steve knew of his troubles but all these revelations have hit his supporters and followers completely unawares. He did not reveal his troubles even to the higher members of the Chicago Tea Party. Worse, I’ve spoken to several members of the upper level of the group who are worried that there are financial issues yet to be fully sussed out — they don’t want me to use their name because there are possible legal troubles here.

Few, it seems, have any clue where the Chicago Tea Party’s funds have gone, who has the accounts, what’s in them, etc.

It seems pretty clear that Mr. Stevlic should resign his position, hand over all the accounting to the lieutenants of the Chicago Tea Party and allow someone that can regain the confidence of activists to take the lead.

Sex isn’t the issue here. Trust is.

Warner Todd Huston is a Chicago based freelance writer. He has been writing opinion editorials and social criticism since early 2001 and before that he wrote articles on U.S. history for several small American magazines. Writes at Public Forum among others. Mr. Huston is also endlessly amused that one of his articles formed the basis of an article in Germany’s Der Spiegel Magazine in 2008.

Seems odd approval of heavily laced with profanity and nastiness diatribe  of Breitbart.  Was he drunk again?

    I don’t understand this part:

He did not reveal his troubles even to the higher members of the Chicago
Tea Party. Worse, I’ve spoken to several members of the upper level of
the group who are worried that there are financial issues yet to be
    fully sussed out

I thought that this was a grassroots movement.

At least Breitbart was able to wipe the cocaine of his nose before he went on stage.

How about the fact that Joe Walsh is a deadbeat dad who owes his ex-wife over 100,000 dollars in back child support? Having Joe Walsh anywhere near your movement discredits everyone and makes you all look stupid. I mean, he has the arrogance and audacity to go on a stage, or go on a nationally-broadcast TV show and talk about “family values”? Meanwhile his own children are at home suffering because he can’t be bothered to write a single check? My own stepkids live with a deadbeat dad that, unfortunately, the law can’t touch – so trust me when I say that deadbeat dads are all worthless, spineless, gutless piles of excrement. Yes, that includes Joe Walsh.

Yeah, that’s weird – because I troll a virulently racist hate site run by a Texan Tea Partier. And it’s funny that he’ll let people go on racist diatribes; he’ll let people engage in fantasies of racial genocide; he’ll let people threaten to murder, kill and terrorize. But yet he has banned me multiple times for my free usage of the F-bomb.

So…what’s with this bullshit? Breitbart (a known liar and racist) goes on a cuss-word-filled tirade, and Warner Todd Huston cheers him on?

I used to comment on WTH’s posts on Newsbusters – he was an ignorant hack then, and he’s a gutless hack now. Come on – stand up for Tea Party “values.” Call out Breitbart and Walsh for their cowardice and lies. Or…I mean…are you even capable of recognizing a lie anymore? You practically SWIM in lies and ignorance, so I’m sure you’ve lost the ability to recognize it.

This is at least the second or third major Tea Party leader to lie, cheat or steal the movement. Who was that guy that wrote that nasty “letter from black people” a year or two ago? Oh, no, the Tea Party isn’t racist AT ALL…and all you can do is lol as these idiots run around in circles trying to justify why, oh, this guy’s racist, sure, but he’s left the movement, and he was never a TRUE Tea Partier – no he was just the founder of your chapter and president for over a year.

Which…if the leaders of the movement are the truest to it, then doesn’t this guy here prove that Tea Partiers are greedy, selfish bastards who will take the money and run at the first chance? Or that they are tone-deaf racists who think writing nasty “letters” counts as “satire”? Ugh. What a plain old disgusting lot of people Tea Partiers are. I mean, you’d think they would stand up against people like Joe Walsh, Breitbart, the Racist Letter Guy and now this most recent Take the Money and Run guy – but they don’t. Because, deep down, all Tea Partiers are Racist Letter guys, they all have a heart full of swear words like Breitbart, they all have a Joe Walsh in their heart just dying to abandon as many children in the streets as they can,  they all want to just take the money and run. I mean, how many Tea Partiers out there are on public benefits – Medicaid, Social Security, GI Bill, farmers’ subsidies, corporate welfare, &c. – and yet want nothing more than to take those same benefits from everyone else?
